First of all we need to built a bearing cleaner...Dont worry its easy, and almost free...It may even be free if you have a few nuts and bolts hanging around the shed.
1) go to a pool supply store and ask them for a free water sample bottle..Here in florida all the pool companies give them away, they dont even ask if you have a pool!
It will look something like this:

2)get a bolt about 6" long and a couple of nuts and a few washers. If you end up buying this stuff at a hardware store, dont worry, it shoudnt cost you more than $1 !

3)make a hole in the lid of the bottle and insert the bolt through it with a washer on each side of the lid. Also put a glob of glue or silicone under the washers as this will seal the hole in the lid around the bolt nicely..
It should look something like this.

4)Now that you have built your bearing cleaner ,Its time to learn how to clean your bearings correctly.
Your cleaner will look like this.

Cleaning your bearings:
1)First you need to decide if your bearings have shields or seals and remove them.
shields look like this:

and seals look like this:

2)remove the shield or seal from
ONE side of your bearings only.I used a pin to do this.
Insert all bearings and spacers on the bolt and secure the end nut.Screw the lid tightly.
Now Is a good time to Clean all dirt and dust from the removed shields with a rag that has been lightly doused in alcohol.
(Dont use Mineral spirits or solvents for this,it can corrode the shields.)
Next fill your "bearing washer bottle" about half way with
Mineral spirits.
You can get mineral spirits at any hardware store or even Walmart.

The cleaner will now look like this...

Shake the bottle virorously to get the dirt moving from the bearings..Then leave the bearings soak for about 10 minutes...If your bearings are really bad you could do a second was with clean mineral spirits after a few minutes.
Anyway you will notice the dirt and grime (shite!) deposited in the mineral spirits..
3)Empty the bearing cleaner of all the mineral spirits and refill the cleaner with
"isopropyl alcohol 91%"..You want the highest percentage stuff ,because the other ingredient is water and that rusts bearings so you dont want the 70% stuff..Make sure its 91%....
The isopropyl alcohol is basically just cleaning the mineral spirits from your bearings and preparing them for speed lube.
Isopropyl alcohol looks like this:

So soak the bearings for 10 or 15 minutes in the alcohol ,shaking them evey now and then..
Now remove the bearing from the cleaner..
You are now ready for the last step..
The Last Step....
You will need some bearing speed lube...

Dry off your bearings as best you can with some clean paper towel.
Now get a hair dryer and completely dry them..It should only take a minute or so..
Important....let the bearings cool down to room temperature before proceeding any further..
When they are cooled down.....Add 3 drops of speed cream to each bearing (not each ball!)
bones sells a good speed cream one that is available in most skate shops,
then re-assemble the bearings by putting the shields /seals back in place. They should snap back in.
Thats it!
Congratulations you now have clean bearings..Now go skate.
